Project Overview

At KCS Projects, we understand how important it is for schools to have reliable fire safety systems and secure access points.

We returned to a UK school during its wider refurbishment to reconfigure the existing fire alarm system and install four new Paxton access control doors.

Although we had completed the original fire alarm works during summer 2025, changes to the building layout meant the system needed to be adapted to suit the new classroom and toilet configurations.

The Challenge

With a full refurbishment underway, several contractors were working on site at the same time. This meant our team had to coordinate closely with other trades to ensure the fire alarm and access control works could progress safely and efficiently.

Some areas could not be completed until other building works had finished, so careful scheduling and communication were essential.

We also needed to complete the installation within the summer holiday period, ensuring the updated systems were ready for the school's return.

Our Approach

We worked alongside the wider project team to coordinate our installation around the progress of the refurbishment.

Our work included:

  • Reconfiguring the fire alarm system to reflect the school's updated internal layout.

  • Installing four new Paxton access control doors to help manage access around the building.

  • Coordinating with other contractors to ensure the works could be completed safely and in the correct sequence.

By keeping communication open and adapting our schedule as different areas became available, we kept the project moving while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.

The Result

We completed the full installation by the end of the summer holidays, as planned.

The updated fire alarm system reflects the school's refurbished layout, while the new access control doors support better management of access to the building.

For us at KCS Projects, projects like this are about more than completing an installation. They're about making sure essential safety and security systems work alongside the building, helping schools provide a safer environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
