Improving Security and Controlled Access Across the School Site

We were appointed to install new vehicle and pedestrian gates, access control systems and associated infrastructure at The Burgate School. The aim of the project was to improve site security and create a clearer separation between key access routes, helping to better control movement across the school grounds.

The works focused on separating the side access route from the rear car park and main entrance areas, ensuring restricted zones could only be accessed by authorised users. This upgrade enhances safety for pupils, staff and visitors while improving day-to-day site management.

Working in a Live School Environment

The project began the week before half-term while the school remained fully operational. Works were carried out in close proximity to the school hall, where GCSE and A-Level exams were taking place throughout the week.

This required careful planning and ongoing coordination with the school to avoid disruption. We worked closely with the designated site contact to align activities with the exam timetable, ensuring all high-noise works were scheduled outside of exam periods.

Noise levels were carefully managed throughout to maintain a suitable environment for students sitting exams.

The Outcome

Despite the constraints of a live school environment and the sensitivity of the exam period, the project was completed successfully and in line with the programme.

Through proactive coordination and careful sequencing of works, we delivered the installation safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to staff and students. The result is a secure and well-controlled access system that improves site safety and supports the school's day-to-day operations.
