Marston Vale Middle School: L2 Addressable Fire Alarm Upgrade

Project Overview

Our fire alarm installation team was appointed by Zeno Construction to carry out the full design, supply, and installation of an L2 Addressable Fire Alarm System at Marston Vale Middle School. This project formed part of a wider upgrade to the school’s fire safety infrastructure, ensuring compliance with current British Standards and providing reliable protection for staff and students.

Following a detailed site visit and assessment of the provided drawings, we developed a bespoke fire alarm system design to suit the school layout and operational requirements.

Fire Alarm Installation Works

Between August and early September, our engineers installed a new addressable fire alarm system across multiple school buildings, including the Sports Block, Science Block, Block 6, Block 4, and Maths Block.

Our works included:

• Complete replacement of cabling with new containment as required

• Installation of 1-loop addressable fire alarm panels in key blocks

• Upgrade of the Main Block fire alarm panel to the latest Advanced 4-loop addressable system

• Addition of around 40–50 new detection devices to achieve L2 coverage

• Integration of existing cable runs where possible for efficiency

• Removal of redundant fire alarm devices to prevent confusion and false alarms

  
  

Fire Alarm Networking and Integration

To enhance functionality, we installed a fully networked fire alarm system linking all four panels on site. This allows users to:

• Monitor and interrogate the entire system from any control panel

• Identify and diagnose faults remotely

• Silence and reset alarms from any panel location

  
  

This networked design ensures fast fault detection and simplified maintenance, improving the overall reliability of the school’s fire safety system.

Project Challenges and Coordination

Working during the summer break, our team coordinated closely with the principal contractor to align installation schedules with other refurbishment works. Careful planning allowed us to complete each building in sequence without disrupting other trades.

External cabling for the fire alarm network required high-level access and was affected by weather conditions, but our engineers maintained progress and delivered the project on time and within budget.

Project Outcome

The completed L2 addressable fire alarm system now provides full protection across the Marston Vale Middle School site. Each building is connected through a robust network, giving complete visibility and control from any panel.
